FAQ

What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon Hydrotherapy, traditionally known as Colonic Irrigation,  gently fills the colon with warm sterile filtered water under gentle pressure.  The colon is fill with water then emptied alternatively, promoting proper peristaltic action.  When the water is flushed out, it carries with it any material that has built up in the large intestine (colon), such as, waste matter, toxins and trapped gases.

How is Colon Hydrotherapy different from enemas?

Enemas clean out only the rectal and  sigmoid area of the colon. A  colon-hydrotherapy treatment can clean out and remove impacted material from the entire large intestine.

What can I expect from a Colon Hydrotherapy session?

You can expect your colonic session to be a  gentle and relaxing experience.  Soft music plays in the background and I have hot rocks for the feet.   You can expect to feel lighter and fresher after your session.

Is Colon Hydrotherapy painful?

There is no pain with colonics.  There can be discomfort such as cramping or an icky feeling which will go away once waste is released. Deep breathing with the belly is a great way to relax the abdomen.

I have my period is it OK to do Colon Hydrotherapy?

This is a great time to receive a colonic.  This is a time of cleansing for a woman and the colonic will help to ease the cramping and heaviness that goes along with your moon cycle.   It is up to you if you want to wear a tampon or not, there is no flow during the colonic but please do what makes you feel most comfortable.

How will I feel after my session?

Most people feel energized, light and, clear headed.  However, some people may feel flu-like symptoms, headaches and lethargy which with some rest and lots of fluids will be gone by the next day.

How should I prepare for my first session?

On the day of your treatment do not eat or drink 2 hours prior to your appointment.  Any meals you do eat should be light in nature.

How many sessions will I need?

This is a very individual question however I do suggest a series of three or five colonics to start for those that have not done colonics before.  Why three to five?  Well just like anything we do in this life, doing it once will not always show the results that we want.   When we go to the gym once after years of not going we know this will not result in that six pack or lower pant size we are desiring we need to continue on in order to achieve the results we are looking for.  Colonics are not that much different.  If we have been having issues for a while then a series of three to five colonics in close succession will get us on the road to better bowel care.

Is Colon Hydrotherapy safe?

Yes, colonics are very safe.  The equipment used is FDA and Health Canada approved.  The speculums are disposable.

Is colon hydrotherapy covered under my extened benefits?

Yes.  Colon hydrotherapy is covered under Naturopathic medicine. But please check with your extended plan if you are not sure.
